A collective identity from Penedès
Corpinnat is a European Union collective brand rooted in the historic Penedès winegrowing area. It is a separate identity from the Cava designation and from Clàssic Penedès within DO Penedès. A winery address in the area does not make these names interchangeable. Read the actual bottle’s identity before comparing its grapes or ageing.
What does the name commit to?
Origin and farming
The collective’s published requirements include certified organic farming, grapes from its defined territory and manual harvesting. These commitments concern the vineyard as well as the finished bottle.
Winemaking responsibility
In-house vinification is part of the model. This directs attention to who handles the grapes and makes the base wines before the final sparkling-wine stages.
Time in bottle
The stated minimum ageing is eighteen months. Longer-aged wines belong within the collective too. Minimum time is a rule, while the producer’s actual ageing and disgorgement information describe the bottle.
Follow the grapes into a real wine
Xarel·lo, Macabeu and Parellada are useful starting points among the territory’s historical varieties. They are not an equal-parts recipe. The collective’s published requirements allow other varieties under defined limits, so check the cuvée rather than assuming that every Corpinnat uses the same grapes.
Recaredo Terrers 2021 provides a documented example: 76% Xarel·lo, 16% Macabeu and 8% Parellada. The producer describes base-wine fermentation in stainless steel and oak, followed by traditional-method bottle fermentation. It identifies the wine as Brut Nature with no added sugar. Those details belong to this wine and vintage, not to every member’s bottle.
The cellar sequence matters
Traditional-method sparkling wine begins with still base wine. Bottle fermentation retains the carbon dioxide; time with the lees adds another dimension. Riddling gathers sediment toward the neck, and disgorgement removes it. Dosage, where used, is a separate finishing decision. Recaredo specifically documents hand riddling and ageing under natural cork for Terrers, illustrating how a producer’s methods add detail beyond a collective rule.
The photograph above illustrates automated riddling as general context. It is not a photograph of Recaredo’s hand-riddling operation. Follow the actual producer account when a particular technique is part of the story.
Read sweetness and ageing separately
Brut Nature concerns sweetness; it does not specify grape percentages or give the lees-ageing period. Likewise, a longer-aged wine is not automatically sweeter. Look for the vintage, actual time on lees and disgorgement information where supplied, then describe the wine’s fruit, texture and savoury character in your own words.
At the table
Try a small pour with roast mushrooms, a vegetable tortilla or simply cooked fish. A tulip-shaped or universal white-wine glass gives room to explore aroma. Compare the wine with and without food before deciding whether freshness, texture or lees character matters most to your pairing.
A small Cork Dork discovery
Give your curiosity a little room.
Compare a Corpinnat, a Cava and a Clàssic Penedès producer description. Record the identity, grapes, actual ageing and sweetness separately. Shared regional roots can connect the wines without making their rules identical.
Your observations, your words. Small pours welcome.
A few questions worth uncorking.
Is Corpinnat another name for Cava?
No. It is a separate collective brand with its own requirements.
Must every wine use equal parts of the classic three grapes?
No. Check the particular cuvée and vintage.
Does Brut Nature tell us how long the wine aged?
No. Sweetness and ageing answer different questions.
